(Vancouver, Canada) May 24 2006, 09:15 EST – Norsat International Inc. (TSX – NII.TO; OTC BB – NSATF.OB) announced today that it has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division. The award includes a Norsat NewsLinkTM system which will be used to transmit video, data and audio content over commercial satellites. The contract also provides for a support package and mission-specific training.
The mandate of the 82nd Airborne Division, based out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, is to execute strategic parachute assaults and to secure the terrain and facilities following a forcible entry.
The Norsat NewsLinkTM enables broadcast quality video in a compact, portable satellite system. The system supports industry standard MPEG-2/DVB-S encoding and is built to survive harsh conditions.
