Norsat Establishes New WiMAX Business Unit

Vancouver, Canada – October 16th, 2008 – Norsat International Inc. (“Norsat”) (TSX – NII.TO; OTC BB – NSATF.OB), a leading provider of intelligent satellite solutions, announced today that it has established a WiMAX business unit to pursue satellite-enabled WiMAX opportunities in emerging markets throughout Asia, Africa and South America.

Satellite technology is critical to reliably and cost-efficiently expanding the coverage reach of WiMAX networks in areas where traditional terrestrial networks are not a feasible option, as it can effectively link remotely-located WiMAX base stations to a centralized switching infrastructure. With an increasing number of WiMAX deployments in rural regions, there is an emerging demand for satellite-enabled networks. Norsat’s satellite systems technology leadership and network design expertise enables the company to provide the optimal satellite backhaul solution in a hybrid WiMAX-satellite communication network.

“Satellite-enabled WiMAX is a strategic extension of our core capabilities,” said Dr. Amiee Chan, president and CEO, Norsat International Inc. “As a leading provider of portable satellite systems and network design services, we are a key enabler of deployments in remote areas. We believe by capitalizing on our understanding of satellite capacity optimization, remote satellite communication management and network engineering, and partnering with players in the WiMAX space, we will be well positioned to establish a strong foothold in this burgeoning market.”

Norsat plans to leverage its satellite communication expertise and work with telecommunications operators and other technology partners to provide end-to-end satellite-enabled WiMAX network solutions for wireless broadband access and voice, data and video communication services. These solutions are expected to include: base stations, voice, data and video content servers, operations support systems, satellite backhaul solutions and satellite capacity.

“Approximately 3 billion people now use mobile phones, but only 400 million have a high speed internet connection,” Dr. Chan added. “We are seeing an increasing number of mobile phone, PDA and laptop users accessing the Internet over satellite-based WiMAX connections, especially in emerging markets. We believe the launch of this business unit will introduce new revenue streams, help drive our push into the commercial market segment and further extend our global reach.”

Norsat Expands High Stability LNB Product Line

(Vancouver, Canada) October 14th, 2008 – Norsat International Inc. (TSX – NII.TO; OTC BB – NSATF.OB), a leading provider of intelligent satellite solutions, today announced that it has expanded its line of high stability Ku-Band low noise block down-converters (LNBs) with the addition of a HS 1000 Ku-Band PLL LNB and a 1000 HX, a highly compact external reference LNB.

”This further extension of our LNB product line follows on the heels of the launch of our series of high stability LNBs,” said Dr. Amiee Chan, president and CEO, Norsat International Inc. “Our high stability LNB products are gaining traction in the market place as the use of complex modulation schemes becomes increasingly prevalent and the need to detect narrow carriers becomes more pronounced.”

The HS 1000 series sets a new standard for phase locked loop LNBs in terms of the local oscillator stability. The internal crystal oscillator in the HS 1000 has a stability level of better than 4 kHz. The legacy 1000 H series have stability levels which range from 5 KHz to 25 KHz, depending on the model.

The advanced 1000 HX series is the smallest external reference unit on the market. The dimensions of the 1000 HX series are 35 mm x 66 mm x 40mm.

Other key features of the new LNBs include:

- Typical low noise figures of 0.8 to 0.9 dB (1000X); and of 0.7 dB to 0.9 dB (HS 1000)
- Conversion gain of 62 dB (1000X); and 60 dB (HS 1000)
- Extended temperature range of -40°C to 60°C

The units will be on display at booth 617 at SATCON 2008 which is being held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, in New York City, on October 15th and 16th, 2008. To book an appointment at the event, please contact Teri Vincent or Laura Garcia at 1-800 644 4562.

Our highly-portable satellite systems facilitate effective communication in remote areas. Our systems also uniquely operate via a graphical, user-friendly control software that simplifies and unifies the experience of operating a satellite terminal.”

The 28th Annual Modern Day Marine Military Expo is being held at the Marine Corps Base, Quantico, Virginia, from September 30th through to October 2nd, 2008. Norsat’s products are on display
in booth 408.

Norsat’s product suite includes:

Ultra-Portable Systems
The ultra-portable line of products includes the GLOBETrekkerTM and RoverTM product families targeted at highly-mobile users who are rapidly deployed to a site on short notice and require instant broadband connectivity. Conveniently packaged in backpacks or wheelable transit cases, these systems are ideally suited for users who have limited to no experience operating ground satellite terminals.

Both product families include a segmented carbon fiber 1.0m antenna; a modem; a low noise block down-converter; a block up-converter. The Norsat GLOBETrekkerTM is a lightweight, auto acquire satellite system that is capable of being transported in two backpacks or airline checkable transit cases. The Norsat RoverTM is a complete, assisted-acquire satellite terminal that fits into a single extended-mission backpack and is mounted on a low-profile tripod.

Transportable Systems
The transportable line of products includes the NewsLinkTM, SecureLinkTM and the newly introduced SigmaLinkTM product families. Transportable systems are ideal for users seeking temporary broadband connectivity over an extended period. These terminals are designed for longer term deployments where portability is not a primary focus.

The NewsLinkTM is capable of transmitting broadcast quality video. The SecureLinkTM and SigmaLinkTM products enable a quickly deployable data link. All three product families are assisted-acquire systems, which include an antenna; a modem; a low noise block down-converter; and a block up-converter.

The Norsat NewsLinkTM and SigmaLinkTM products feature a segmented 1.0m carbon fiber antenna while the Norsat SigmaLinkTM line includes a 1.5m and 1.8m antenna variant. The NewsLinkTM includes a
built-in encoder and modulator, and the Norsat SecureLinkTM includes a built-in TDMA or SCPC modem.

Vehicle Mount Systems

The vehicle-mount product line includes the recently announced Norsat ConvoyTM, and is ideally suited to accommodate mobile base stations and command and control (C2) centers. With minimal installation and automatic alignment procedures, users with little to no training can be up and transmitting from their vehicle in a matter of minutes. The Norsat ConvoyTM features antenna apertures at 1.2m, 1.5m, 1.8m and 2.4m. These systems also offer highly flexible and interoperable platforms, making them ideally suited to address on-the-pause, mission-critical applications.
