Norsat ranked 91 on the BIV’s Top 100 Biggest Manufacturers in Metro Vancouver list. Ranked by the total number of employees, Norsat’s BC employee base rose almost 20% year-over-year and the trend is continuing. We have a range of open positions available in our Richmond facility, as well as our Aurora, Ontario plant. Check out our career postings on the Norsat website.
Many notable companies made the top 100 list this year including Seasan and Lafarge Canada. For a full list of the Business in Vancouver Top 100 Manufacturer rankings click here.
Recently Norsat hosted the Norsat Worldwide Sales Team at our Canadian Headquarters for our annual Sales and Marketing Conference. The three-day session included presentations from the Norsat executive, product marketing, marketing communications and engineering product demonstrations and training. Each of the sales managers presented their yearly sales plans as well.
Norsat’s VP Sales and Marketing, Brian Donnelly, presented the annual sales awards. Congratulations to Douglas Chun, Top Sales Person for 2015 and Olivier Scorsipa, Top Over Quota Sales for 2015. Both Douglas and Olivier were presented with a glass sculpture award for their accomplishments.
To break up the presentations and provide a little fun throughout the week, we ran a team building exercise to get both internal sales and marketing staff engaging and working with the external sales team. This year’s challenge was called Frostbite. Teams had to work together to build a shelter out of construction paper, toothpicks, post-it notes and elastics, while their leader suffered from frostbite on his hands and could only give verbal direction, and the team members suffered from snow blindness, hence could not see. Congratulations to the team of Stan Mullery, Sheri Morita and Douglas Chun for their design that withstood the cold winter winds (a.k.a an office fan!)
Overall the week was productive as the teams were able to come together to discuss challenges and then discuss strategies to help the company improve to grow the business in the future.
On Friday, February 5th, Norsat played host to Jasmine Nikkari, a third year University of British Columbia engineering student as part of the Odgers Berndtson, CEO x 1 Day Program.
CEO x 1 Day matches third and fourth year university students with some of Canada’s leading CEOs. Students from across the country have been paired with presidents and CEOs from industries that range from retail and technology, to sports and government, providing an extraordinary range of experiences. The program gives students an opportunity to take in-class learning and apply it to a real world situation and equips them with the tools and skills to start building their careers.
On the flip side, the CEO x 1 Day program gives CEOs an opportunity to connect and better understand what drives the next generation of leaders. Norsat’s participation shows the organization’s commitment to supporting youth by investing in their career development and creating opportunities for future leaders.
During the day Jasmine shadowed Dr. Amiee Chan, Norsat’s President and CEO, as well as met with other company VPs and Managers to get a better understanding of how the organization runs.
Jasmine commented, “It was a fantastic day, and I truly appreciated all I saw and learned, as well as the effort you put in to make me feel welcomed and involved.”
We wish Jasmine the best of luck in the rest of the 2015-2016 school year and in her future endeavors. Who knows… maybe she will grace the halls of Norsat with her presence in a future internship or job opportunity?
