Annette Colligan, Norsat’s marketing and communications manager and chair of the Norsat Foundation, presented Mac Miao, Vice CEO of the Tzu Chi Foundation Canada with a donation to support their various programs.
The Tzu Chi Foundation is an international humanitarian and non-governmental organization with many volunteers all over the world. This charity focuses on giving aid to all people in need and inspires love, compassion, and humanity to both givers and receivers. The organization is also very involved with disaster relief all over the world through donations, providing food and supplies, and medical assistance. Volunteers help built hospitals, schools, and villages in disaster affected areas.
One of the key programs that the Tzu Chi Foundation supports is the Blue Sky Project, which aims to provide vulnerable children with resources and opportunities which they may not have been given otherwise. This includes a breakfast program in schools, funding for extracurricular camps and social activities, and back-to-school supplies.
The roots for this organization is Buddhism, however the foundation helps anyone in need. Volunteers within the organization are diverse and encompass all ethnic and religion backgrounds.
On Saturday, July 16th, Norsat was proud to be a corporate sponsor at the Union Gospel Mission, Annual Summer BBQ. This event, held in Oppenheimer Park on the downtown eastside of Vancouver, served more than 3,480 meals to the homeless and downtown eastside community. The Annual Summer BBQ is a family-friendly community celebration, where our neighbors in need experienced hope in an inclusive and relaxing environment. Food was served all day, and fun activities like music, games, and a carnival-style ‘kid-zone’ for neighborhood families was provided.
A team of Norsat employees attended the event and volunteered preparing and serving food.
Jane Huynh commented, “It made my day to help out and give back to the community. I met a lot of great and friendly people while volunteering. It was great seeing the community out with their families and having a good time. There were smiles everywhere and the community was very thankful for UGM for putting on such a great event. I would definitely volunteer again.”
Another Norsat volunteer, Robert Li said, “This was a really happy experience. Actually, when I decided to register for this activity, I was not sure what kind of people needed help. Maybe they just need something to drink; maybe they need a platform to get together. When I walked through the square, the long line up was just like the big dragon with an unreachable tail. When we saw the happiness from everybody, I think its God showing much glory and honor! God bless everyone!”
Through the support of sponsors like Rogers Sugar, Rogers Group Financial, LGM and Norsat, UGM was able to give guests a day where they feel loved and accepted, but also simply experience a day of fun without worrying about the many barriers in their lives. This was an excellent opportunity for Norsat to partner with UGM and give back to the community in which it operates.

Although forestry companies made the biggest jump on Business in Vancouver’s top 100 list of public companies, technology companies still seem to make a consistent showing when it comes to BC’s top. The top 100 public companies are ranked by revenue in the most recent fiscal year. The strong US dollar helped push Norsat up the ladder moving from 88th to the 80th position as Norsat reports in US dollars. For a full listing of BIV’s Top 100 public companies click here.
Norsat and Deviser Partner to Provide Next Generation Spectrum Monitoring System For Distributed Mission-Critical Applications
For over 60 years, Norsat’s Sinclair division based in Aurora, Ontario has provided high performance and ruggedized antennas to various industries globally. Our antennas are some of the best on the market, and will stand up to severe environmental conditions.
Sinclair supplied Deviser Instruments, a major test and measurement solutions provider with our SP4704 antenna for Deviser’s newly announced DS1620 SpectrumPROFILER remote spectrum monitoring system. Deviser’s DS1620 SpectrumPROFILER remote spectrum monitoring system significantly reduces the time, cost and complexity associated with the standard approach of detecting, identifying and removing interference signals originating from licensed or unlicensed communications systems. This enables mission-critical operators to eliminate signal interference in a matter of hours rather than weeks, while simultaneously improving overall service reliability and customer satisfaction.
The SP4704 is externally mounted and covers frequency range from 698 to 960 MHz, weighs less than 7 pounds and provides high gain and high front-to-back ratio giving users excellent performance and increased signal strength. The SP4704 is directionally controlled by the DS1620 System to detect and locate signal interference. Norsat worked closely with Deviser to develop and customize the SP4704 high performance antenna to meet their unique specifications. When speaking with Mike Tolaio, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Deviser Instruments Inc, he quoted, “We are pleased to partner with Norsat’s Sinclair division to provide this high performance signal monitoring system for mission-critical applications. Norsat’s reputation in the industry for quality products, and their willingness to work with us on this system was a key factor in our decision to choose Norsat.” says Mike Tolaio.

The Critical Communications World conference has just wrapped in up in RAI Amsterdam and we would like to thank everyone who stopped by the Sinclair Technologies booth! Compared to last year, we felt that the show was much more successful. The organizers reported a higher attendance and this seemed to be reflected in the increased foot traffic.
Throughout the course of the show there were many people who stopped by the Sinclair booth and were quite interested in our antenna and RF conditioning products. Many of these prospects were predominately from Europe, Eastern Europe, Middle East, South Africa and Thailand. Attendees were excited about our latest product offerings with a couple past customers coming to the booth hoping to partner with Sinclair again on the next phase of their project. This shows the long-term nature of the business especially with larger projects.
Some of the guests who visited the booth spoke about the long lead times with other companies. Sinclair is aware of this industry issue and has taken steps to reduce the lead times, so customers get their products faster. Another trend that we discussed at the show was systems that need to cover multiple bands with emergency services on one band and private operators on the other. Conversations were a plenty with discussions on opportunities for antennas and filtering systems from all over the region.
We had a great time visiting with prospects and customers and are looking forward to seeing everyone again next year.
