The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO), Canada, Inc. is a voluntary, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the enhancement of public safety communications. It serves the people who supply, install and operate the Emergency Communications Systems used around Canada from coast to coast.
The annual APCO Canada show held recently in Banff, Alberta is a show where key players from the Canadian Public Safety Sector gather annually to discuss their successes, concerns and action plans.
This is also the opportunity for manufacturers and OEM’s to reach out and share information about their latest technologies.
Sinclair was pleased to feature the new SC251D VHF Dual Antenna that was the center piece of our display, along with the new wideband Yagi. There was huge interest from potential users as this is a way to reduce tower loading, as well as achieve excellent port-to-port antenna isolation.

|Ceramic Combiner – 700 – 800 MHz|
| Key Features:
| Product Description
The ceramic combiner uses an ultra high Q ceramic resonator. This simultaniously allows for a very low loss within the combiner and very close spacing between the transmitter frequencies. The compactness of the resonator means that up to 3 channels can fit in a 3U high, 12 inch deep envelope. This combiner comes in 1, 2 and 3-channel modules. Combiners with larger numbers of channels can be built by joining these modules.
| Norsat Announces Narrow-Band Duplexer Series Targeted at Law Enforcement Agencies
The PR4330 is a narrow band 700/800 MHz duplexer that offers ultra-rugged construction, excellent protection from out-of-band frequencies to minimize RF interference and to maintain good signal quality, and excellent temperature compensation to keep stable product performance over a very wide range of temperatures. The ruggedized features of this product are extremely important as high reliability of communications during critical situations is vital to the success of tactical operations. Read more
|The Critical Communications World conference was held May 31 – June 2 in RAI Amsterdam and we would like to thank everyone who stopped by the Sinclair Technologies booth! Compared to last year, we felt that the show was much more successful. The organizers reported a higher attendance and this seemed to be reflected in the increased foot traffic.
Throughout the course of the show there were many people who stopped by the Sinclair booth that were quite interested in our antenna and RF conditioning products. These prospects were predominately from Europe, Middle East, South Africa and Thailand. Attendees were excited about our latest product offerings with a couple past customers coming to the booth hoping to partner with Sinclair again on the next phase of their projects. This shows the long-term nature of the business especially with larger projects. Read More

Norsat’s US Sales team hosted many guests both military and civilian at Norsat’s booth at the 35th annual Milcom show November 1-3 in Baltimore, Maryland. Co-hosted by AFCEA International and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), MILCOM continues to be the premier international conference for military communications and is the one conference where command, control and communication challenges are presented and discussed end to end – from research and development through existing solutions to future needs.
The theme for the 2016 show was “Securing Communications at the Speed of Cyber” and offered visitors the opportunity to understand the breadth of requirements, the pace of change and the state of play in a variety of C4I markets serving DOD, as well as federal agencies and multi-national entities.
One of the keynotes delivered by Lt. Gen. Alan Lynn, USA, director of the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) discussed that cybersecurity is an important part of the future of warfighting. When he talked about where we are going in Cyber Defense, Mobility and Innovation, reducing SWAP (size, weight and power) for the warfighter was a highlighted theme.
Maj. Gen. Earl Matthews, USAF, (Ret.), former director of cyberspace operations and chief information security officer for the Air Force and now vice president for Enterprise Security Solutions, U.S. public sector, Hewlett Packard Enterprise stated, “With technology developing at what seems like warp speed, new systems will have a higher data processing capacity and greater speed and be able to leverage greater bandwidth. These systems are going to have to be prepared to change frequency dependencies … because this is the place they are going to operate in the electromagnetic spectrum. Physical maneuvers exists in cyberspace.”
At the show, Norsat showcased our GlobeTrekker 2.0, the world’s most intelligent fly-away satellite terminal and the ultra-portable, rapidly deployable Ranger terminal, along with our industry leading size, weight and power ATOM series of Block Upconverters (BUCs) and Solid State Power Amplifiers (SSPAs). Norsat’s products come in various frequency bands and address some of the overall themes presented throughout the 3 days conference. Overall the show was successful for Norsat and we look forward to participating in the Milcom 2017 show and other future AFCEA events and programs.

So sit back, enjoy and see what Sinclairity has to offer you.|
|Product Spotlight – Introducing 3 New Series of Collinear Antennas|
|All of these products are designed with a highly durable internal structure housed in a UV protected fiberglass radome, ensuring superior resistance to harsh environmental conditions. These antennas are fabricated to meet the most stringent wind and ice loading requirements. Due to the wide band and high average power and PIP power handling capability, these antennas are ideally suited for trunking applications or multi-channel operations. The reliability and durability of these antennas makes them suitable for mission critical applications such as public safety and law enforcement.|
|High Performance VHF Collinear Omni Antenna|
|The SC229-L series is a high-performance, low PIM certified collinear omni antenna which offers 6dB gain, excellent bandwidth and high reliability. This series of antenna has a tapered radome, which results in less wind resistance, lower tip deflection at high wind speeds and decreased overall weight. This antenna has a lightening spike on top of the radome to protect the antenna from a lightning strike. Additional painting provides extra protection and extends the lifetime of the antenna.|
|The Sales and Marketing team from Sinclair Technologies, Norsat’s RF division, recently returned from the International Wireless Communications Expo held from March 21 – 25th at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Need antenna pattern information?
Did you know there are between 500 and 1,000 16-24 year olds living on the Vancouver streets each night? The majority of street youth have experienced physical, sexual and or emotional abuse, often at the hands of the adults that were responsible for taking care of them. Likewise, Vancouver’s downtown streets can be dangerous. Sexual exploitation, drug abuse, poverty and illness are commonplace on the streets and many of our youth are re-victimized there, having fled one unsafe situation only to find their circumstances often worse. Covenant House helps homeless, runaway and at-risk young people for short-term residential care through their Crisis Program and longer term care in their transitional living program Rights of Passage (ROP).
Although Norsat has been a long-time supporter of the Covenant House, many of the employees were unaware of the history and the great work that Covenant House does in our community. Jessica Thompson, Development Officer at Covenant House came to Norsat to talk about their outreach team, drop-in centre, shelter beds, and mental health and housing programs.
During this visit, Norsat’s marketing and communications manager and chair of the Norsat Foundation, Annette Colligan, presented Jessica with a donation to support their various programs.

Do you know how easy it is to tune a TXC Ceramic Combiner? , Mike Macki, Senior Product Design Engineer at Sinclair Technologies details the steps to tune a Combiner from the TXC family of products. Mike shows you how easy the Combiner can be tuned when you compare it to other products of the same kind. What makes our Combiner stand out is that the tuning rods can be simply adjusted with your fingers, and not with a wrench. This cuts the tuning time by more than half and response is much better in term of insertion loss. Click here to go to our YouTube Video and learn more!
