The sun was shining and it was a great day at the Union Gospel Mission Annual Summer BBQ, Saturday, July 15th at Oppenheimer Park in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. Norsat was once again proud to be a corporate sponsor of this annual event that fed more than 5,000 meals to the downtown eastside residents who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, as well as low income families.
Attendees feasted on a sizzling summer BBQ including burgers, smokies, coleslaw, macaroni salad, a pop and even a cool treat at the end! Residents could also participate in face painting, bouncy castles and mini-carnival games, providing hours of entertainment and a much-needed moment of rest and relaxation for some who don’t get to celebrate the fun of summer.
Studies show the child poverty rate in the Downtown Eastside is a staggering 64%. Norsat was happy that they could join title sponsor Roger’s Sugar Vancouver to help host the biggest UGM event of the year. Thank you to the Norsat team and the other corporate sponsors that volunteered throughout the day to help prepare and serve meals.
Annette Colligan, Norsat’s Marketing Communications Manager and Chair of the Norsat Foundation, was interviewed by the Vancouver Sun. See the video here.
Via Satellite’s July/August issue is now available! Norsat’s VP of Sales and Marketing, Brian Donnelly, had the opportunity to be interviewed as a part of the “Amplifier Firms Eye SmallSat, Ka-band Opportunities” article. With the increasing interest and investment in LEO, MEO, and GEO constellations, especially in Ka-band, the future of satellite communications is exciting with endless possibilities. However, the challenge for many amplifier providers is to find a way to offer lower priced equipment to smallsat customers.
