Once a year, the Norsat sales and marketing team gather from all over the world to meet at the Richmond, BC head office to discuss the previous year’s sales goals and targets for the upcoming year. The two-day session included presentations from departments such as sales, product marketing, engineering, and R&D. The purpose of this conference was to align the sales and marketing goals with the overall corporate goals. It also gave employees who work remotely, face time with their colleagues. Awards were given out during the conference to Rich, who won Top Sales Person for 2016, and Laura, who won Top Over Quota Sales for 2016. Congratulations Rich and Laura!
To wrap up the conference, a team building activity called Egg Drop was played to help energize the sales team in a creative way. The purpose of the activity was to build a structure with limited supplies that would protect the raw egg from cracking when dropped from a distance of 4 feet, 6 feet, 8 feet, and 10 feet.
Teams were given limited supplies that consisted of one raw egg, one balloon, one pair of scissors, one meter of tape, one meter of string, 50 plastic straws, and 15 minutes to construct their structure. The teams worked through trial and error to see what would work best for this challenge. At the end of the 15 minutes, three very unique structures were built and the testing began!
Congratulations to Olivier, Laura, and Douglas who built the best egg-protecting structure! They were the first team to finish building their structure and their structure survived through multiple drops at 10 ft. Great teamwork!
In conclusion, the conference was a success as it aligned the sales and marketing teams with the goals moving forward for 2017.
