Norsat International, one of BC’s top 100 public companies, is looking for a student in or graduate from a relevant graphic design or communications program to serve as a contract Marketing Communications & Design Specialist (F/T or P/T, negotiable). This role is ideal for someone eventually seeking a permanent position in corporate marketing communications or creative design. The position reports to Product Marketing Manager. The Marketing Communications & Design Specialist will work closely with senior management, marketing communications, product marketing, sales, and investor relations.

Position Description:

The Marketing Communications Copywriter is responsible for writing and editing copy for online and offline marketing campaigns. The ideal candidate is up-to-date on the latest trends in direct marketing writing, has a keen grasp of verbal and visual communication, and of course is an exceptional writer. He / she will eventually be responsible for spearheading corporate communications and crafting our corporate ‘story’, both online and offline. Specifically, this specialist will work with marketing communications, and sales to create materials, organize events, and execute various communication strategies targeted at prospects, customers, investment community, and media, as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement a corporate communications strategy, in conjunction with the senior management team
  • Develop creative, comprehensive, and end-to-end copy for online/offline marketing materials
  • Comfortably present ideas and get feedback from key stakeholders
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure consistency and integration between online, print and interactive materials
  • Effectively balance creative requirements with business and technical requirements
  • Handle multiple marketing communications or investor relations projects with tight deadlines
  • Liaise with project stakeholders from various departments
  • Organize and take ownership of projects to move them from initialization to completion
  • Coordinate the circulation of news releases, SEDAR filings and conference calls
  • Other related activities as necessary

Qualifications:

This position requires an experienced and effective business communicator with an ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume entrepreneurial environment. Required skills, experience and characteristics include:

  • Post-secondary education in English, journalism or communications with 1-3 years experience in corporate communications
  • Superior writing skills including: the ability to simplify concepts and tailor messaging for specific audiences; creatively express a concise message in copy; apply sound knowledge of grammatical principles
  • Strong organizational skills and an unwavering ability to produce high quality content while managing multiple projects under tight deadlines
  • An ability to respond quickly to internal demands and a changing workload
  • A strong sense of urgency, ownership and personal responsibility
  • A high degree of professionalism and strong interpersonal skills including the ability to interact effectively across all levels of the organization
  • A positive, can-do attitude with the ability to work well both independently and as member of a team
  • An ability to thrive in a high-growth, fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Strong computer skills including expertise with MS-Office and Adobe CS3 (considered an asset) applications
