Senior Accountant

Summary:

Reporting to the Divisional Controller, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for reconciliation of account balances, maintaining general ledger and preparing month-end and year-end close procedures.  A successful Senior Accountant combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to prepare and analyze financial reports.  This position is suitable for senior accountants transitioning from public practice to industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Support month-end and year-end close process
  • Conduct general ledger account reconciliations, prepare journal entries and working papers in multiple currencies, and complete monthly management reports, analysis and schedules
  • Prepare monthly expense variance analysis between actual and budget
  • Review all intercompany transactions and maintain intercompany accounts
  • Track project expenses and prepare monthly project costing reports
  • Assist with Canadian corporation tax returns (including SR&ED), sales tax returns and tax audits
  • Assist with external audits and prepare requested schedules and technical accounting memos
  • Document and monitor business processes to maintain internal controls
  • Assist with ERP system implementation
  • Supervise more junior staff members
  • Provide backup coverage and support to accounts receivable and payroll as required
  • Perform other accounting duties and special projects as required

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant
  • Completion of qualified accounting designation
  • 5+ years’ experience in accounting
  • Experience with multi-company and multi-currency transactions
  • Experience with large ERP systems, preferably Navision and Oracle
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Public practice experience is an asset
  • Payroll experience is an asset
