Position: Product Manager

Overview:
Norsat International Inc., founded in 1977, is a leading provider of communication solutions that enable the transmission of data, audio and video in remote and austere environments. Norsat's products and services include microwave components, portable satellite systems, maritime solutions, and wireless network solutions. Norsat also provides engineering consulting services and equipment financing.
Summary
The Product Manager provides leadership in ensuring that Norsat products stay competitive in the market and that Norsat maintains an industry leadership position. The Product Manager will manage the full lifecycle of all existing and new products with a focus on a new product/services strategy for the resource, utility, and transportation markets. The ideal candidate possesses a strong technical aptitude and business acumen.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor and analyze target market environment through direct market research
- Identify new product opportunities and prepare business cases
- Establish and maintain product roadmaps
- Analyze features, pricing, profitability, key performance indicators and competitiveness in the market place
- Work with Marketing to research and track competitive products and market trends
- Prepare product launch plans
- Manage the full life cycle (concept to EOL) of existing and mature products across business units
- Prepare product specification documents, including roles and responsibilities, timing, suppliers, budgets and approvals
- Coordinate product development
- Ensure that all legal, regulatory and branding requirements are met
- Visit customers and participate in industry events
- Support the sales team on proposal and quotation requests
- Conduct product sales training
Educational and Experience Requirements:
- B. Eng., Bachelors of Science (Physics) or equivalent; MBA is an asset.
- 8 years+ of experience in communications
- 5 years+ in product management
- Proven ability to work with customers to understand their needs and develop clear product requirements.
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills
- Proven ability to write technical specifications and requirements
- Superb communication skills (oral, written and presentations)
- Proven ability to manage multiple products from conception to obsolescence
- Proven discipline to execute a product launch plan
- Experience with any of the following will be considered an asset: VSATs, INMARSAT, terrestrial microwave radios, terrestrial-trunked radios, mobile base stations, and antenna.
- Experience with communications products/services in the following markets will be considered an asset: resources (e.g. mining, oil and gas), utilities, transportation
