Profit-ChatelaineW100_2015_logoDr. Amiee Chan, President & CEO ranked #49 on the 17th annual Profit/Chatelaine W100 List. The PROFIT/Chatelaine W100 ranking of Canada’s Top Female Entrepreneurs is Canada’s largest celebration of achievement by women business owners. Produced by the editors of PROFIT and Chatelaine, the rankings and extended coverage of the women honored are published in print and online. The W100 ranks female business leaders using a proprietary formula that considers the size, growth rate and profitability of the companies they own and manage.

It may seem a bit antiquated to shine the spotlight on women alone, but sadly, it’s still vitally important that we celebrate the achievements of female entrepreneurs and leaders. Women still earn 24% less than men, while occupying just 16% of the seats on corporate boards. Moreover, when women found a company with a male partner, it’s the man who ends up as the head of the company in 85% of cases.

It is no wonder that Dr. Chan made this list! On top of being a female in a male dominated industry, her strategic vision has enabled Norsat to become a leading provider of innovative communication solutions. Her customer focused product development strategy has led to the successful commercialization of products for the satellite and wireless markets.

Since taking the reins at Norsat in 2006, Dr. Chan has led the company from near insolvency to consistent revenue growth and profitability. She is well known for her entrepreneurship and financial management within the satellite communications industry and the local business community.
