Dress for the Cause Event Raises More than $3300

In celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Norsat and Sinclair joined organizations across the nation for the Dress for the Cause fundraiser. Dress for the Cause and the Breast Cancer Society of Canada raise money for the research into the detection, prevention, treatment and cure of breast cancer.  To date, the Dress for a cause event in Canada has successfully raised over $7 million for Canadian breast cancer research.

As a member of Railway Interchange, RSSI teamed up with two other associations, REMSA and RSI, to put together a bigger and better exhibition. AREMA also held its conference and seminars in conjunction with Railway Interchange. APCO International 2017: Bringing the Public Safety Industry Together

APCO International’s Annual Conference & Expo was hosted in Denver, Colorado and offered four days of educational sessions and amazing keynote speakers including General Keith Alexander, Colonel Jill Morgenthaler, and Scott O’Grady. There were over 100 educational sessions and nine session tracks including Emergency Preparedness, Response & Situational Awareness. Sinclair Two-Day Technical Workshop: Expertise at Your Fingertips

Sinclair had a successful two-day workshop at its Aurora office! The two-day workshop was broken into “Antennas and Antenna Theory” for day one and “RF Filter Products and Accessories” for day two. The workshop was hosted by Sinclair’s Technical Engineers, Jim Reville and Mike Macki. SM701 Series Transportation Antenna

Sinclair’s SM701 series of transportation antennas are specifically designed to address the need for compact, low profile, broadband antennas used in a harsh environment. CASE STUDY: Radiometrics Partners with Sinclair Technologies to Design Custom Antenna

Radiometrics (through its recently acquired DeTect Meteorological Systems Group) was selected to replace the aging troposphere/stratosphere Radar Wind Profiler (RWP) system at NASA Kennedy Space Center. At the time, NASA was utilizing weather balloons to determine winds aloft, and loosely relying on their old RWP system as a backup. NASA heavy-lift community’s interest in precise, current winds spurred the need for the new RWP system. This replacement project is expected to last for the next 20 years. CASE STUDY: Sinclair Helps NAV Canada Safely Move Millions of Aircraft

NAV CANADA’s radar coverage of Hudson Bay was limited to line-of-sight (LOS) and did not cover the entire Hudson Bay area. The Company used VHF communication sites around Hudson Bay and HF communications for areas that were not covered by VHF. During a testing phase, the system produced a result that was less than expected as the coverage was effected by ice buildup on the antenna. Sinclair Technologies was approached to provide a high gain antenna that would be able to withstand ice buildup and to provide the needed coverage. Click here to read the case study.

Antenna Installation and Clamps

Antennas are sensitive pieces of equipment and can be easily damaged if installed incorrectly. If the antenna is not installed correctly, the antenna can shift position which can result in poor performance, excessive vibration, and material fatigue. The antenna should be straight and mounted in a sturdy fashion; it should have minimal movement and should stay as still as possible. The source of a reduced coverage area could be a result of several factors, but it is important to first look at how the antenna was installed and the clamps used. Sinclair Showcases at TESSCO ONE Open House

The two-day show was put on by our excellent partner TESSCO and included an exhibition floor, knowledge sessions, and keynote speakers. CASE STUDY: Radiometrics Partners with Sinclair Technologies to Design Custom Antenna

NASA had an aging radar infrastructure that needed to be replaced and upgraded. Radiometrics took on this project, but soon realized that they needed to partner with an antenna manufacturer who could meet the specifications of their custom engineered design. Radiometrics contacted several suppliers but only a few could meet these requirements. Sinclair Technologies stood out as the frontrunner due to their ability to customize and manufacture antennas in large quantities. Read more on how Sinclair worked with Radiometrics to create custom antennas for NASA.

A Quick Overview: What is the Importance of PIP?

Peak Instantaneous Power (PIP) is a power rating for antennas that are to be  used in digitally modulated systems.  A PIP rating is important when choosing your RF equipment as a digitally modulated transmitter can cause high voltages in multi carrier systems. PIP is much higher in multi carrier systems than it is in single carrier systems. The high voltages that are produced can cause electrical arcing and possible damage inside non PIP rated system components, ultimately leading to major failure.  Using non-PIP rated system components can result in damage to your system resulting in:

  • Loss of signal and distortion
  • Increase the noise figure or bit-error-rate
  • Physical damage to RF components or subsystems to the point of destruction.

This problem grows over time and will lead to missed communications if the issue is ignored. The problem is known to occur in P25 Phase II, Tetra LMR, and in Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (ODFM) LTE systems. All systems that use LSM modulation need PIP rated components.

Sinclair offers a wide variety of PIP-rated system antennas including both collinear and dipole antennas. Sinclair PIP ratings are quantified by testing that is performed in an indoor antenna testing chamber. Enough margin is applied to Sinclair’s antenna designs in order to compensate the effects of PIP handling which includes elevation, humidity, temperature, and other environmental factors. Understanding and minimizing potential PIP issues is critical to ensure the optimal performance of your antenna and RF system.
