Today Women of Influence Inc, North America’s leading organization dedicated to the professional advancement of women, announced the 2013 rankings of its Top 25 Women of Influence. The ranking is designed to celebrate and showcase the achievements of the most influential women in business, health, non-governmental organizations, professional services, and the public sector over the past year. Dr.Chan will be profiled in the winter issue of Women of Influence magazine, with the public selecting the five winners who will appear on the cover! We’re delighted to announce that we have won a Best International Business Award from the Association of Chinese Canadian Entrepreneurs (ACCE)! The awards ceremony, hosted by ACCE in association with The Centre of Entrepreneurship of Centennial College, Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, Price Waterhouse Coopers and Ming Pao Daily News, was held March 23, 2013 and awards were announced for excellence in a range of categories including innovation and community service.
The purpose of the awards is to promote entrepreneurship in the Chinese Canadian community, recognize the contributions of Chinese Canadian entrepreneurs, encourage new business start-up and promote social responsibility in entrepreneurs.
Norsat President & CEO, Dr. Amiee Chan immigrated to Canada from Hong Kong as a child, and was thrilled with the win. Although she was unable to attend, representatives from Sinclair Technologies accepted the award on behalf of Amiee and the whole Norsat team.
We’re pleased to be recognized for our contributions to international business, and to the Chinese Canadian community. Congratulations to our fellow winners and thanks to ACCE for the honour.

Our CEO, Dr. Amiee Chan has is an accomplished engineer with over a dozen publications, 3 US patents, a PhD, and multiple award wins, mostly recently including the Women’s Executive Network Top 100 Award. She has led Norsat through innovative product development and financial growth, but she’s also passionate about encouraging a new generation of women to pursue careers traditionally dominated by men.
Recently Dr. Chan spoke to a group of young women at a Vancouver based elementary school about the importance of education and career development, using her own story as an example. This was a great chance for Dr. Chan to share her experience as a leader in the technology sector, and an opportunity for the young women to hear directly from the source what a career in leadership is like.
We were pleased to be nominated for the BC Export awards, and absolutely delighted when we won in the category of Advancing Technology and Innovation. We’re delighted to be one of just 12 finalists for the 2012 HSBC Business without Borders International Business awards, which recognize the best of Canadian companies doing business abroad. The awards gala, held Oct 23rd in Toronto, was an excellent opportunity to meet our fellow nominees and enjoy a little well deserved praise for the hard work we’ve put into developing international customer relationships.
We found ourselves nominated alongside some excellent Canadian companies and although we didn’t win this year, it’s an honour to be a finalist and we’ll certainly be back for more in the future. We want to thank HSBC and BWOB for hosting the well organized gala and for putting together these great videos of each finalist.
