Dr. Amiee Chan has over 15 years of experience in executive management and research & development in the telecommunications industry. Offering a rare blend of technical and corporate strength, Dr. Chan’s strategic vision has driven Norsat’s innovative product development program and resulted in consistent revenue growth since her appointment as CEO in 2006. In 2012 Dr. Chan won a Women’s Executive Network Top 100 Award, ranked third in PROFIT/Chatelaine’s list of Top Female Entrepreneurs, and led Norsat to win a BC Export Award for Advancing Technology & Innovation. Dr. Chan holds an Executive MBA from Simon Fraser University where she majored in Strategy and New Ventures and a Ph. D. in Satellite Communications from the University of British Columbia. An accomplished engineer, she has been published over a dozen times, holds three US patents, and has been involved in high level research teams such as the NASA ACTS Terminal Program. Dr. Chan is a member of the UBC Engineering Advisory Council and serves on the Dean’s External Advisory Board for the Beedie School of Business at SFU.
Mr. Chin rejoined Norsat in 2011, bringing 16 years of professional experience in both public practice and in public companies. Since leaving public practice in 2002, he has served in senior financial positions with several international companies, assisting them in planning and analysis of their financial reporting, handling corporate accounting and tax, corporate communications efforts, and providing corporate development strategies. Mr. Chin was previously with Norsat between 2002 and 2005 and was the Company’s Corporate Controller. Prior to rejoining Norsat, he held senior financial positions mostly in the high technology industry with DDS Wireless International Inc., a TSX listed company that provides wireless mobile data solutions and Ascalade Communications Inc., formerly a TSX listed company that designed, developed and manufactured digital wireless and communication products and also with the Canadian Tourism Commission. Prior to his corporate experiences he was in Big 4 public practice, most recently as a Manager in the assurance practice of Deloitte and originally with PricewaterhouseCoopers. Mr. Chin is a Chartered Accountant of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia.
Mr. Broom joined Norsat in 2013, bringing more than 20 years of operations management experience in the high tech battery industry. Most recently, he held the position of VP of Operations at BAK Battery, a manufacturer of lithium-ion batteries for personal electronics, electric vehicles and battery storage applications. Prior to BAK, he was General Manager of E-One Moli Energy Corporation, a producer of lithium-ion batteries based in British Columbia. During the past three decades, Mr. Broom has held leadership positions in quality, engineering, product design, operations, R&D and general management. Mr. Broom holds a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Waterloo and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario.
Mr. Donnelly has been managing sales and marketing teams for high technology companies for over 20 years. Mr. Donnelly’s innovative sales and marketing leadership have helped DDS Wireless, Icron Technologies, Corinex Communications, and Skillsoft achieve the #1 market share in their respective industries. Mr. Donnelly was recently Vice President, Sales and Marketing for Icron Technologies where he led the product and market transition into the video extension and KVM markets along with 40% revenue growth. He was a founder, board member and was elected Chairman of the Universal Powerline Association (UPA), a 22+ company industry organization that included Toshiba, D-Link, Buffalo, Netgear, and Comtrend and was responsible for promoting and developing IEEE and ITU worldwide specifications and standards for Powerline technology for Home, Access, and MDU networking. He holds an honors degree in Electrical Engineering from Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Canada.
Mr.Schefter has over 22 years of R&D experience in satellite and system design & development from component to system levels. He has extensive experience in project planning, design, verification and launching as well as developing new approaches and applying new technologies and materials. His work experience spans across industries such as VSAT’s, defense, military and government satellite. He is responsible for leading Norsat’s engineering team through the development process for all activities related to satellite terminals as well as providing research and development direction. Mr.Schefter has a Masters of Electrical Engineering, and BSc in Mathematics and Engineering.
Mr. So has 20 years of experience from a variety of industries in the areas of operations management, manufacturing, and engineering. Before joining Norsat in 2012, Mr. So held the position of VP of Operations at China BAK Battery Ltd., where he was responsible for the manufacturing of cylindrical and polymer cells, and the assembly of cells into modules for EV applications. He also played an integral part in introducing development products into large scale production. His past experience includes work in the pulp & paper, mining and automotive industries. Mr. So holds a BASc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of British Columbia and is a licensed Professional Engineer in BC.
Mr. Lan has proposed and commercialized a variety of new antennas and RF components for public safety and private wireless networks. He holds two patents and has published over 40 papers in professional journals and international conferences. He holds B. E, M. E, and Ph. D degrees in electrical engineering and is a senior member of IEEE. He has International experience including research positions with City University (Hong Kong), National University (Singapore) and University of Waterloo (Canada) as well as consulting positions for companies in Singapore and North America.
